At the beginning of the year, a new cardiology and cardiac surgery department opened at the Odessa City Clinical Hospital No. 11.
The provision of high-quality medical assistance to patients with cardiovascular diseases is a crucial focus for this multidisciplinary cluster hospital.
The new department can offer cardiac surgical assistance to approximately 1,000 patients each year. Medical services are provided free of charge under the state medical guarantee program.
The establishment of a dedicated cardiac surgery team allows for the introduction of transplantation services.
The cardiology and cardiac surgery department has already successfully performed its first surgical procedure involving the implantation of a dual-chamber pacemaker.
According to the head of the department, Natalia Mozhey, the operation was performed on an 80-year-old woman suffering from complete atrioventricular block. The procedure was conducted based on life-saving indications in accordance with international and national clinical guidelines. The patient’s condition has improved significantly, and she is expected to be discharged from the hospital in a few days.
Such operations mark an essential step in the development of specialized cardiac surgical services in Odessa.
