On the eve of World AIDS Day, celebrated on December 1, a significant meeting took place at the Odesa City Hall, involving representatives from the City Center for HIV Prevention and NGOs.
In these challenging wartime conditions, Odesa continues to ensure the provision of medical services in combating HIV and tuberculosis.
Free HIV testing is available in all city hospitals, primary health care centers, maternity wards, and various medical facilities. Rapid tests provide results in just 10-15 minutes.
Patients who test positive are referred to the City AIDS Center for further examinations and necessary treatment. High-quality antiretroviral therapy is provided free of charge, allowing individuals with HIV to live full lives and have healthy children.
In the first ten months of 2025, 34,792 individuals underwent HIV testing in Odesa, with 301 cases testing positive. Of the total tests, 19,140 were conducted by primary health care physicians.
Family doctors conduct tuberculosis screenings through questionnaires. This year, 702 suspected cases of tuberculosis were identified, with 542 confirmed.
Meeting participants discussed ways to enhance cooperation between medical institutions and NGOs for better referral of HIV-positive patients to specialists.
Additionally, staff and visitors to the Administrative Services Center were offered free anonymous testing for HIV and viral hepatitis by medical professionals.
