Today, Ukraine celebrates an important occasion - the Air Force Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This holiday is observed on the first Sunday of August, as per the presidential decree issued on June 27, 2007.
The history of aviation worldwide is closely connected to Ukrainian land. Notable constructors like Oleksandr Mozyrskyi, who created one of the first airplanes, Mykola Kibalchych, the founder of rocketry, and Oleksandr Zasyadko, the creator of military missiles, made significant contributions. The names of Igor Sikorsky and Dmytro Hryhorovych became globally recognized due to their aviation achievements.
Ukrainian ace pilots Kostiantyn Artseulov and Volodymyr Dybovskyi were the first to master the technique of recovering aircraft from free fall in a spin. Pilot Yevgraf Kruten laid the groundwork for fighter aviation tactics that are still employed in modern aerial combat.
Today, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine includes not only aviation units but also air defense components, such as missile defense systems and radio-technical troops, as well as special forces.
