A new experimental project has been initiated in Ukraine, enabling military personnel to participate in a remote military medical commission (VLK). This decision was supported by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The project is designed for defenders who are undergoing treatment abroad and are unable to return home due to their health condition.
According to the new regulations, military personnel receiving treatment outside Ukraine for a year will have the opportunity to undergo VLK remotely. This also includes employees of civil protection agencies and police who have been affected by the war.
The government has specified a list of diseases for which a remote medical examination is possible. Specifically, this includes:
- malignant tumors;
- eye diseases;
- head and neck injuries;
- spinal cord and nerve injuries;
- internal organ injuries;
- limb injuries;
- thermal and chemical burns.
How will the remote VLK work?
Initially, the defender or their legal representative must submit documents from an overseas medical institution, translated into Ukrainian and certified. The documents must include a diagnosis according to the International Classification of Diseases. The military unit will then forward these documents to the VLK, which will review them within 10 days. After that, medical professionals will make a decision regarding the individual's fitness for service. The VLK will also prepare a corresponding certificate for the unit commander. Upon returning to Ukraine, the defender who underwent the remote examination will not be required to go through VLK again. It has been noted that this experimental project will last for one year from the date it comes into effect. Previously, the Cabinet of Ministers simplified the procedure for obtaining electronic referrals for VLK.
