The National Bank of Ukraine has announced the withdrawal of certain coins from circulation. However, the 10 kopeck coins will remain in use. This information was provided by representatives of the National Bank.
Retail chains, service providers, and banks will continue to accept 10 kopeck coins for financial transactions. Citizens do not need to exchange or return them specifically.
Starting October 1, the National Bank will cease minting 10 kopeck coins and will not send them to banks to replenish cash circulation. Any coins that enter banks will not return to circulation but will be withdrawn and sent to the National Bank for disposal.
“Considering the significant number of 10 kopeck coins in circulation and the decreasing demand for them, we have decided to gradually withdraw them. This will reduce costs associated with the production and handling of such coins,” the National Bank stated.
It is worth noting that coins of 1, 2, and 5 kopecks were withdrawn from circulation on October 1, 2019, and 25 kopecks were removed on October 1, 2020. After the withdrawal of 10 kopeck coins, the smallest coin remaining in Ukraine will be 50 kopecks.
