A New Era for Children's Rights in the Judiciary

On November 28, an important event took place in Kyiv, marking the beginning of a new era in the judiciary, where children's rights are prioritized.

The seminar, dedicated to the launch of a project for the specialization of judges in family and child matters, brought together top experts and international partners to implement changes that will affect the lives of thousands of children.

Why is this more than just a reform?

Imagine a court where decisions are made considering the needs of children, where a judge not only knows the law but also understands the psychological aspects of childhood and listens to their opinions.

This will become a reality thanks to the specialization of judges, supported by the Civil Cassation Court, the Interagency Coordination Council on Minor Issues, UNICEF, and the All-Ukrainian Public Center "Volunteer".

Three essential steps towards change:

  • Pilot courts will implement specialization — judges will undergo training and work in multidisciplinary teams alongside psychologists, lawyers, and guardianship authorities.
  • Training programs for specialists addressing safe family environments and children's rights.
  • Child-friendly spaces will be created — courts will have special rooms designed to significantly reduce stress for young participants.

This pilot project is just the beginning. Its success will lay the groundwork for legislative changes and the formation of a judiciary that places children's interests at the forefront.

This is not just about reforms. It's about compassion, humanity, and creating an environment where every child feels safe.
