Olympic champion from Odesa, Alina Komashchuk, has achieved her first individual medal at the European Championship in fencing, securing silver in Genoa.
This was reported by the Fencing Federation of Ukraine.
On June 15, Alina Komashchuk claimed the silver medal at the European Fencing Championship held in Genoa, Italy.
In the final match among sabre fencers, Komashchuk lost to the reigning European champion from France, Sara Nuchi, with a score of 6:15.
On her way to the final, the Ukrainian displayed exceptional form, first confidently defeating the Italian fencer Mariella Viale, a medalist at junior world and European championships, and then overcoming the strong Polish sabre fencer Sylwia Matuszczak in the semifinals.
This silver medal is historic for Komashchuk, as she had previously reached the podium at European Championships as part of the team but had never won an individual medal.
