Ophthalmologists have reached out to the Barrier-Free Council under the Odesa mayor with a proposal to support the Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy in implementing barrier-free solutions on its premises. This includes the installation of pedestrian areas with tactile paving, creating accessible signage, and providing information in Braille, which is critically important for visually impaired patients.
«I will bring this matter to the attention of the deputies, as the Filatov Institute is not just a medical facility. It is a research center with over a century of history, subordinated to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Its contributions to the development of ophthalmology are recognized not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders. We will definitely find ways to assist», - noted Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
The outpatient clinic of the Institute serves about 500 patients daily, including civilians, children, individuals with disabilities, and military personnel who receive highly qualified care.
Previously, work on repairing sidewalks and installing traffic lights had already been carried out on the section of French Boulevard near the facility.
«The next logical step should be to create a fully barrier-free environment that meets the status of the institution and the needs of its patients», - stated the mayor's advisor on accessibility, Alexey Morozov.
