In Odesa, patients suffering from rare diseases have been provided with essential medications and therapeutic nutrition free of charge for many years, thanks to the City Target Program «Health».
In 2025, the city budget allocated 26.8 million UAH for the support of patients with rare diseases. This significantly enhances their quality of life, reduces the risk of complications, and alleviates the economic burden on families.
As part of the «Health» program, 21 patients with phenylketonuria received specialized nutritional mixtures, including 12 children and 9 adults. This allows patients who cannot consume regular food to receive adequate nutrition with sufficient protein content during the critical period of bodily development, preserving their physical and mental health.
For patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, 60 children and 50 adults were provided with biological drugs funded by the state budget over the past nine months. Additionally, three adult patients received expensive biologics from the city budget.
This provision has improved the well-being of patients, alleviated pain, and enhanced the quality of life, allowing children to participate in dance groups, sports sections, and more.
During the first nine months of 2025, 175 patients with other rare diseases were also supplied with necessary medications, including 132 patients with ankylosing spondylitis and others with psoriatic arthropathy.
For years, children with hemophilia have been provided free of charge with essential blood clotting factor medications from the city budget, which has prevented severe bleeding and the need for emergency hospitalization. This year, 11 children with hemophilia are receiving replacement therapy with clotting factors funded by the state budget.
Timely and accessible treatment has significantly improved the quality of life for patients with rare diseases, allowing them to live fulfilling lives and halt the progression of disability.
